Junkyard Jam
Junkyard Jam is an annual gathering of street artists from across the UK and beyond, held every September in Crewe. Organised by Spray Day, a street art organisation and curator based in Manchester, the event celebrates creativity, spontaneity, and the ephemeral beauty of art in its rawest form. Each year, artists come together for a weekend to transform scrapped cars into vibrant, unconventional canvases, pushing the boundaries of their creativity without the usual constraints.
What sets Junkyard Jam apart is the complete artistic freedom granted to every participant. Artists are encouraged to explore any style or theme they desire, approaching each car in their own unique way. This freedom has made the event a haven for experimentation and expression, drawing an eclectic mix of renowned and emerging artists. The weekend is filled with energy as paint cans hiss, ideas collide, and the once-forgotten cars are reborn with vivid colours, intricate designs, and bold statements.
The event concludes with a dramatic twist: a gathering where everyone watches the freshly painted cars meet their end in a symbolic demolition. This final act highlights the temporary nature of street art, reinforcing the idea that art can be powerful and meaningful even in its impermanence.
Junkyard Jam is more than just an event—it's a community gathering, a celebration of street art’s fleeting beauty, and a chance for artists to create freely, connect with others, and revel in the moment.
