Mural

National Museum of Computing

I am not really a tech person. For a very long time, I actually believed I had a talent for destroying all electronic devices. I don’t know how to use Excel, and my mum never wants to lend me her car because I’m the least trusted person when it comes to using it.

So, imagine how surprised I was to find myself working with a place like the National Museum of Computing In some crazy way, the original diagrams of the Colossus computer and my art turned out to be a match made in heaven.

What is an abstract mural?

An abstract mural is a colourful composition that doesn’t hold an obvious visual meaning. It is a way to showcase a message in a less literal way. Usually, murals are much larger than the typical painting, so the way we experience them changes as well. The massive space grabs a bigger field of view, allowing the viewer to feel the artwork in two ways—up close and from a distance.

Colossus is a computer that played a crucial role in decoding German ciphers during the Second World War. We saw a visual connection between the technical drawings and my art, aiming to give a story like that of Colossus a fresh and different narrative.

The whole project took months of preparation and just a few days to paint. From colours fashionable at the time to the colours of the computer wires.
